For those people that have an idea for a melody or a drum part but don't know haw to write it down, this software may be the solution. imitone is funded via Kickstarter and it should bring the possibility to transfer sound from the microphone to MIDI signals. After that you can play or edit that melody or beat on your instruments in your preferred music software.
The designers of imitone claim that it will recognize the melody in voice, as well as live instruments. That option is great for the people who can, for instance, play the guitar a bit, want to make a synth bassline, and don't know how to write it.
Similar solutions are already out there, such as The Finger and The Mouth by Native Instruments. But those just let you synthesize sound with their own instruments. imitone offers the option to export the MIDI file for later use with any program that can read MIDI.
